Valley Stewardship Network is supporting four farmer/landowner-led watershed councils and the implementation and maintenance of best management practices in two major watersheds.  Best management of upland and riparian farmland is especially critical to aquatic health, sustainability of agriculture, and the economic benefits of cold-water fisheries. Farmer- and landowner-led watershed councils are a successful model to implement and maintain best management practices such as Science-based Trials of Rowcrops Integrated with Prairie Strips (STRIPs) over many years.
